Madrid is home to a large number of historical sites and breath taking architecture with buildings like: the Royal Palace of Madrid and the Plaza Major, two must see place in this amazing city. Although these landmarks are great for exploring on foot, heading up high or knowing the right time of day to visit is a great way to get even more out of the city, and let’s be honest there is nothing quite like a birds eye view. Below are some of the best places in Madrid to catch amazing views that are guaranteed to literally provide a whole new perspective on the Spanish capital and leave you speechless at the same time.

The Top Four Best Views in Madrid – Teleferico Madrid

This is a must stop for all, the Teleferico of Madrid provides the ultimate bird’s eye view of the city. Great for photo opportunities, the cable car travels above many of the parks in the city, the Manzanares River and famous landmarks such as the Royal Palace and La Plaza de España. The Teleferico starts at the Paseo Rosales and ends at the Casa de Campo Park, which is the largest green space in Madrid. The trip takes around 10 minutes, and reaches heights of up to 40 meters above the ground.

The Top Four Best Views in Madrid – El Corte Ingles, Plaza del Callao

El Corte Ingles (a higher end Walmart) on the Plaza del Callao is one of the biggest shopping centers in the city, selling everything from designer brands to high end electronics. The view the shopping center offers is even better than its shops! Anyone who fancies a break from the sales for a few minutes (guys will know what I mean) will be able to sit at the cafe on the ninth floor, enjoy a drink and a great view of the city skyline with the Guadarrama Mountains (great hiking point) in the background.

The Top Four Best Views in Madrid – The Penthouse

It may be a wee bit pricey but the views from the top of the Penthouse bar on top of the Hotel ME are worth every penny. Owned by the husband of Cindy Crawford, the stylish bar looks out over central Madrid and is often full of Spanish celebrities. There is no better place to sip a cocktail or two on a cool summer evening whilst looking out over the Madrid skyline.

The Top Four Best Views in Madrid – Temple of Debod

Although not quite as high up as some of the other places mentioned the view from the Temple of Debod is great place to experience a sensational sunset. This Egyptian temple dates back to the 2nd Century BC and was donated to Spain in 1968 (brought over one piece at a time). Anyone visiting at dusk will be able to enjoy views of the rest of Madrid as well as the reflection of the temple that lights up at night in the large pool in front of it – definitely the best view in the city.
